A precious legacy
Winery Huber & Distillery Starlight, Indiana
In beautiful Starlight, Indiana, surrounded by idyllic hills and lakes, Ted Huber is the sixth generation of his family to run the Huber Winery. The family business was founded in 1843 by Ted Huber's great-great-greatgrandfather, a winegrower from the Baden region in Germany. He came to Indiana in the middle of the 18th century, bought a plot of land and planted his first vineyards and apple trees there. Since then, the winery has been passed down from generation to generation as a precious legacy of the Huber family. The winery now covers a total area of 700 hectares and continues to produce high-quality, terroir-driven wines and, since 1998 with the founding of the Starlight distillery, also spirits.
In their work, the Huber family attaches great importance to sustainable cultivation methods and, for example, carefully cultivates their grape varieties by hand in order to cultivate the perfect varieties for the right soil. The result of this care is a unique taste that has already produced numerous award-winning wines and distillates.
The processing of the high-quality products is supported and refined by the Speidel stainless steel tanks, which were added to the production facility some time ago.
The Huber family received expert advice, planning and implementation from Speidel's American specialist dealer MoreWine: "Ripping old tanks out, moving new tanks in is an engineering challenge. But we were able to overcome it with MoreWine, working directely with them and Speidel to bring in the right tanks, put it into right space." says Ted Huber, impressed.
»We tripled the capacity in the same amount of area of tank space from our traditional tanks now to our stackable tank.«
But the Hubers are also completely convinced by the Speidel tanks themselves: In addition to the easy cleaning, the uniform manhole doors and practical accessories, one thing is praised above all: "Speidel offers a lot of flexibility when it comes down to tank profiles responding to individual customer needs," says Christian Huber, seventh-generation winemaker.
This is particularly important because the winery and distillery have different needs and requirements: "We have a lot of different products and space. We tripled the capacity in the same amount of area of tank space from our traditional tanks now to our stackable tank." says winemaker Blake Huber proudly.
